WODS are designed to achieve maximum power through quick, explosive moves, so you'll need a kit that won't slow you down. From box jumps to burpees to push-ups, here's what to wear to look good during a workout.
1. THE RIGHT COACHES FOR YOU
Success is built on a solid foundation and that includes your training shoes. Look for training shoes that are light and nimble, but also absorb shock during quick lateral movements.
In addition, they must also provide a stable base and sufficient energy return for power when jumping and lifting. Your shoes should have:
- Lightweight, springy cushioning that isn't too fluffy, with a relatively firm midsole that lets you harness, rather than lose energy for maximum power on lifts and jumps.
- Minimal heel-to-toe drop that allows your foot to sit close to the ground for a stable base.
- A foot-hugging upper with an external heel counter and strong lateral support to help stabilize and secure the foot
- A highly abrasive, non-marking outsole with traction that grips on lifts and jumps.
- A breathable upper with plenty of ventilation to help keep feet cool.
Our favourites:
- Reebok CrossFit Nano 7.0
- Inov8 F-Lite Series
2. A BREATHABLE TANK TOP OR T-SHIRT
Cross-training is a tough sport, and you're going to be working hard and sweating it out. The priorities for your workout gear are a) that it keeps you cool and dry, b) that it allows you to move freely, and c) that it doesn't cause you any irritation or distraction. Look for workout t-shirts and tank tops with these features:
- Lightweight, breathable fabric that wicks sweat away from the skin
- Insertion of mesh at the main heat points, for example under the arms, for better ventilation and better cooling
- A fitted cut. Loose t-shirts can get caught in dumbbells and other equipment. Look for a slim, flexible fit that moves with you quickly and allows you a full range of motion
- Flatlock seam. There's nothing worse than getting irritated while working hard. Look for T-shirts that have no seams or have flat or taped seams to avoid irritation.
Our choices :
- Reebok ActivChill Tee
- Reebok CrossFit Women's ActivChill Tank Top
3. SHORTS OR TIGHTS THAT ALLOW YOU TO MOVE FREELY
The last thing you want when you're squatting, jumping, and stripping is workout pants that restrict your movement or make you ride high. Your best options are shorts and tights with a 4-way stretch that will allow you to move freely in all directions. Here's what you should look for:
- A breathable and flexible fabric with a high content of elastane for maximum elasticity that will also get you in shape.
- A slim, streamlined fit that won't snag on gear.
- Again, flat or taped seams to avoid chafing
- If you wear tights, mesh inserts behind the knee will promote cooling.
- Pockets for your essentials, eg your phone or earphones
- If you feel uncomfortable, you can layer looser but higher shorts with bootsorts
Our choices :
- Reebok CrossFit Compression Shorts
- Reebok Women's RC KWVN Shortie
4. A GOOD SPORTS BRA
You'll be running, jumping and lifting, which means you'll need a sports bra designed for high-intensity workouts with optimal support. Your sports bra should have:
- High impact support. Look for deep underbands and if you need extra support, molded cups.
- Breathable and supportive fabric.
- Taped seams to prevent chafing
- Wide, adjustable and padded straps to prevent sinking
- Mesh inserts for cooling
Our choices :
- Reebok Women's RC Double Strap Bra
- State Race Sports Bra (High Support)
5. TECHNICAL MESH SOCKS
Just plain cotton socks won't cut it here. You'll need high-absorbency socks to keep your feet cool, dry, and comfortable during your workout. You will need to have them:
- a technical and breathable fabric
- An ergonomic cut that hugs the foot to prevent blisters.

- 6 Pack Asics Training Socks
