1. It was created by Greg Glassman

Mr. Glassman has spent most of his life in Southern California as a trainer. He founded the first Cross-training gym in 1995 in Santa Cruz, California. Although he no longer practices, he still owns and operates the brand.

2. It was originally designed to train police forces

The Santa Cruz Police Department hired Glassman to train its officers in the mid-1990s. Today, many police academies, tactical operations teams and military special operations teams use Cross-Training as their primary physical training program.


3. The Cross-training Games were created in 2007 and welcome the best athletes in the world

Each year since its inception, participation rates for this competition have grown rapidly. To put things in perspective, the first place prize was $500 in 2007, in 2015 the first place prize was $275,000. Participation has also increased, from 70 participants in 2007 to 273,000 people registering to compete in 2015.

4. Cross-training exercises integrate elements from different fitness disciplines

Cross training uses elements of high-intensity interval training (HIIT), Olympic weightlifting, plyometrics, powerlifting, gymnastics, calisthenics, bodybuilding and other exercises to create a complete athlete who can perform in any discipline.

5. In 15 years, 10,000 affiliated Cross-training gyms have opened their doors worldwide

The brand has expanded to 6 continents and continues to grow with more than 3 applicants per day.

6. Cross-training exercises are named after women and fallen soldiers

Hero WODs are named in memory of soldiers who died in combat. The Murph WOD for example is very well known.
